Beatle.me.uk site overhaul

in About Beatle

If you were fortunate enough to see this website within the first 2 weeks of existence you would have seen a very different site. “How would this have been fortunate for me?” I hear you ask, well then you may have seen the early stages of setting up a Blog site. One of the things I am going to do whilst getting my self all geared up and knowledgeable on the whole Internet Marketing, traffic generating and Blog\Twitter posting is to keep a ongoing technical diary detailing what I go through so that hopefully somebody else can benefit from my trials and tribulations.

This site is hosted by Uk2.net and I have gone for a hosted package ( I have been using Uk2.net for about 9 years now and all I can say is Wow! what a good hosting company, although they are a lot more than just that, check them out at Uk2.net. Using their new control panel I have tried several of the software packages available for installation on your website and I’ve opted for the WordPress Blog package. I originally started with a CMS package but I’ve been down that route on my other domain www.beatle.org.uk and it can be a lot of work. I also gave the Nucleus blog package a go but after reading The underground secret Twitter manifesto exposed! I opted for a different package.

I was convinced to choose the Wordpress package. Installation using the Uk2.net CPanel couldn’t have been any simpler and I have a full bona fide Blog site up and running within minutes. I’d copied the Blogs I’d posted in the Nucleus version of this site and simply pasted them into Wordpress.  A word to the wise, If you write any of your blogs in Word, for the spell checking or simply to save them on your PC, and then past them in Wordpress, check the HTML tag and remove all the garbage HTML code that comes across with the paste. It just bogs down you page and slows down the loading of the posts. Clear everything up to the first letter of your post, also Wordpress has a spell checker so you can avoid the pasting thing all together if you want.

Any how, after a little digression, I have also made use of a few Plug-ins that was one of the main reasons for using Wordpress and they integrate very nicely and are a breeze to install and configure.

The first one I’m using is TweetMyBlog which not only places your Blogs onto your Twitter page, that’s possibly how you found this post, as you post them but also brings your latest tweets to your Blog page as you can see in widget that is in the lower part of the side bar to the right.

The second plug-in I decided to use is the Aweber Intergration plugin. This allows you to place a mailing list subscription form widget, also on the right hand sidebar, onto your blog site to easily allow your blog readers to subscribe to your mailing list that you distribute using Aweber.

Now I know that a lot of you may be reading this saying “So what’s new, I knew how to do that!” but hopefully there are those who didn’t know and will gain some benefit from this post.

I’ll be looking to add some more pug-ins and widgets so keep on coming back to have a look. If at any stage you feel the site is loosing it apeal due to widgets or advertising please let me know rather than leave the site, after all I’d like to keep you entertained!

Regards
